Ah. This is a struggle for me right now. I am the pregnant mother of a three-year-old and I seem to be very short on patience these days. I've taught my son to take deep breaths when frustrated, and he's been coaching me in the same activity. "Take a breath, Mama! Are you so frustrated?" They really do help. Mommy time-outs (a moment to yourself to calm down) make a huge difference too. Thanks for this encouragement, Jill!

I love your distinction between reacting and responding. For me, I am learning to recognize that much of my frustration comes in thinking my kids should know something that I haven't actually taught them yet and in recognizing that I lose things too!

I have found that if I can pause long enough to take a breath, I can remind myself that God is watching and He knows the details and for some reason known to Himself He has allowed what is happening to happen.
I enjoyed listening to your interview this morning on Focus on the Family. My husband does the morning show on WLUJ in Springfield, IL and FotF plays every morning at 7am. I was never really into talk radio that much but I can not wait for my 30 min travel time to work listening to the program. I learn so much from listening to those interviews. Although I have heard your story at HAH, I really think God is placing these interviews in my path to encourage me through my tough season right now! I'm thankful for you and for Focus on the Family!
