Book Review: How We Love

Mark and I have been reading a book aloud together.  This is the first time we’ve ever done that!

The book we’ve been reading is called How We Love by Milan and Kay Yerkovich.  It has been absolutely fascinating.  We’ve learned so much about how our family of origin affects the ways we do relationships as adults.

The Yerkovich’s discuss how our early life experiences create an “intimacy imprint”–an underlying blueprint that shapes our behavior, beliefs, and expectations in all relationships, especially our marriage.  They identify four types of injured imprints that combine in marriage to trap couples in a repetitive dance of pain.

As we’ve been reading together, we seem to take turns saying, “Oh my gosh…that’s me,” or “Wow!  That describes me to a T.”  We’ve learned a lot about ourselves and about each other.  We’ve also learned about why we do the things we do and why we experience recurring issues in our relationship.

If you’re looking for a good read that will strengthen your marriage and your relationships in general,  How We Love is a great choice!
