Last week I had the privilege of partnering with Focus on the Family to encourage marriages on their radio broadcast.
They also featured a 5 minute video I did for them in the fall about loving when it’s hard. If you or someone you know are struggling in your marriage, you’ll find some words of encouragement for you here.)
How about you? Has God ever showed you how to love when it’s hard?
Within a month of our marriage we conceived our first child. Complications at the beginning of the second trimester put me on bed rest. We were still getting used to foibles and quirks and suddenly my husband has total charge of his work, housework, nursing,…my mantra became “it’s not wrong, it’s just different”. That single phrase has helped us weather many difficulties in our 16 year marriage.
Good for you, Lisa! It’s great that you could learn that so early in your marriage!
What a classy, gracious, unselfish response to someone who hurt you. Another great time for us to try on the clothes of being “like Christ”… in an area that MATTERS and that could be defning for so many. Thank you, both of you, for your honesty and willingness to bare it all for the sake of others who might need to know they’re not the only ones going through something devastating like this. God bless you.
Thank you, Sylvia.
Thank you for this encouragement, Jill! As I watched this video, my four-year-old came in and started watching with me…when it finished she looked at me with a big smile on her face and said, “That was really nice!” 🙂
I think there are times we need the Holy Spirit’s strength and wisdom to love all kinds of unlovable people, not just husbands.
I agree, Jessica.
Going through this season now. it is very hard and confusing
Yes, it is, Yvonne. There were several books that helped me: Kay Arthur’s “When the Hurt Runs Deep” and the “Jesus Calling” Devotional by Sarah Young. Work to keep your eyes on the Mountain Mover and not on the mountains. That will give you the strength and perspective you need in this hard season.
thank you. i will check them out
Thank you, Jill for sharing. I too am in the midst of the same season of life. I’ve noticed that when my thoughts are consumed with negativity, God reminds me that allowing satan to be destructive in my heart/head will NOT improve the circumstance. He also has shown me how to trust in His faithfulness and know that He is good no matter what is happening around me. In fact, I’ve found myself praising Him for His goodness even more as it has become my stronghold, in the lonliness.
Beautifully said, Christie.
Thank you for sharing this! I so needed this today! It’s so good to know I am not alone and there is hope and I CAN do it with God’s help! Thank you 🙂
